Ashley Oakes, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer
Ashley Oakes was born and raised in Santa Cruz, California. In 2004 she received a scholarship to compete for the women’s basketball team at Azusa Pacific University. While attending APU Ashley was a part of the athletic training program. She had the opportunity to work with the athletic teams at APU, Pasadena City College, and Diamond Bar High School. She also interned at The Physical Edge in Arcadia, California where she was employed after graduation. She received her Bachelors degree in Athletic Training and certification in Athletic Training in 2008. July of 2008 Ashley moved to Ashland, Oregon where she was an assistant athletic trainer and adjunct instructor for Southern Oregon University. She taught First Aid and Acute Care and Prevention of Sports Injuries and worked with 10 NAIA athletic teams. Ashley currently works as the ATC for both Sports Conditioning and Rehabilitation, and El Modena High School. At EMHS she is responsible for the sports medicine for the varsity, junior varsity, and freshman teams for 14 sports. She is also pursuing her Masters of Science in Human Movement from Arizona School of Health Sciences and studying for certified strength and conditioning specialist’s exam. In her spare time Ashley enjoys playing sports and being active.
Hiro Oda, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer
Hiro was born and raised in Southern California. He earned his Bachelors of Science Degree in Kinesiology and also completed the Athletic Training Program at Cal State University of Fullerton. He has worked with various sports including men's basketball, softball, track & field, women's soccer, high school football, and was the lead student for baseball. He had the privilege to work and travel with the baseball team during the 2009 season and also experienced working at the NCAA Baseball College World Series in 2009. In 2010 he passed the BOC exam to earn his certification in Athletic Training. In high school Hiro played baseball and football. He played the outfield in baseball and in football played tailback, receiver but mainly defensive back. In his spare time he enjoys playing softball, surfing, and snowboarding.
Laura Kellen, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer
Laura grew up in Stockton, California and moved to Orange in 2003 to attend Chapman University. She has gone through the Chapman Athletic Training program to become a Certified Athletic Trainer. Throughout the program, she worked with the Chapman University football and baseball teams, as well as student-athletes from local high schools and universities.
Laura traveled to Australia to work with the Australian Olympic athletes and helped the Physiotherapists treat the professional Cricket and Australian Rules football players. She started attending Physical Therapy school in the fall of 2008.
Leo Cruz, CSCS
Personal Trainer
Leo has been employed with SCAR over the past three years. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from California State University, San Bernardino. Leo is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
A California native, Leo has trained a broad range of clients stemming from young athletes seeking optimal performance goals to senior citizens seeking to gain a better understanding of lifetime fitness principles. He also has experience in developing pre- and post-op fitness programs for gastric bypass patients and is a Certified New Leaf Metabolic Examiner. Leo also has experience coaching youth basketball and has done various volunteer work assisting athletes participating in the Special Olympics.
Nicole Anderson, MS, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer
Nicole joined SCAR in the summer of 2008 as the Head Athletic Trainer. She grew up in the Pacific Northwest, where she was involved in athletics both as a player and as a coach. Nicole moved to Orange in 2000 to attend Chapman University. At Chapman, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Athletic Training while she played intercollegiate soccer all four years and competed in track one year. She completed a Master's degree in Clinical Exercise Science at California State University, Fullerton.
Nicole possesses a wealth of experience in athletic injury prevention, evaluation and care for a wide range of populations from recreational youth to the collegiate and elite athletes. Her years of personal experience as an athlete and professional experience as an athletic trainer have provided an in-depth understanding of the needs and expectations of the competitive athlete. Her goal is to empower athletes to achieve their goals through education, preventative exercise programs and injury evaluation and care.
Nicole is a NATA BOC Certified Athletic Trainer and has been a staff athletic trainer for the Olympic Development Program Region IV Youth Soccer since 2003. From 2006-2008, Nicole was employed at California State University, Fullerton and her responsibilities included the women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's gymnastics and men's and women's track teams. She was the Head Athletic Trainer at Sage Hill School in Newport Coast, California from 2005-2006, and worked at a physical therapy clinic from 2004-2005.
Sarah Anderson, MS, ATC
Certified Athletic Trainer
Sarah grew up in Chino Hills, California and graduated from Ayala High School. During high school she competed in volleyball for 4 years and played club volleyball for Top Gun Volleyball Club throughout high school. She went on to complete her undergraduate work at the University of La Verne. While attending ULV, Sarah competed in collegiate volleyball for 4 years. In 2001, her team became the NCAA Div III Women's NAtional Volleyball Champions. Sarah graduated from ULV in 2004 with a degree in Movement and Sports Science. In 2009, Sarah graduated from California Baptist University with her Master's degree in Athletic Training. While completing her Masters she worked with a variety of sports including CBU's women's soccer, men's and women's basketball, women's water polo, and the National Championship women's softball team. She also worked with the Riverside community College Football team as she gained clinical experience with the staff at the Sport Clinic in Riverside. Sarah coached club volleyball at Top Gun Volleyball Club for 10 years, including the time she was doing her undergraduate and graduate work.
Siham (Sue) Arevalo, BS
Certified Nutritionist, Exercise Physiologist
Sue has been a personal trainer and group exercise instructor at a variety of high profile organizations since 1988. She maintains her expertise in customizing individualized programs to meet the needs of her clients with injuries, disabilities and medical issues.
Sue received her Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton. Since then, she has completed numerous certifications from the American Council on Exercise and the Aerobics and Fitness Association of America, including those in personal training and primary group instruction. She has also completed Keiser and Star Trac® Spin/Cycle certifications and Rebok®® Walking and Step programs.
During her career, Sue has provided instruction, instructor training and workshops for various corporations including Rockwell (Boeing), Unocal 76, Chevron and Sensormedics. Currently, Sue works as the exercise physiologist for St. Joseph Hospital Bariatric Program and Chapman Center for Obesity. She is also a certified nutritionist.
